After the popularity of the post I made 2 years ago on this card, I have made a simple template to print and cut out.

Please note, this design is by sjrenoir.com I do not claim any credit for the design, I have simply created an outline, using an image that she shows on her site.

I have not been able to contact the person who made the original design, and I do not speak Korean.

So no bad intentions from me. Just a lot of complaints from people not being able to make this for them selves!!!

Ok, so onto the card, this is what the template will look like printed out.

You need to set the printer to ‘do not crop’ or ‘stretch to fit’.

Plain white paper will do, although thin card would be the best.

solid line = CUT

dashed line = FOLD

You’ll need to use a cutting knife & board. And preferably a ruler.

For the outer (red) card, you will need some a4 (or letter) paper or card.

Due to the differences in printers and paper sizes, I cannot give you a definite measurement for that. Basically just get some rectangular red card and, leaving a gap, stick the inner cutout onto it.

Then fold the red card along where the inner part folds… basically lining them up. Really easy, honest. Then cut off the excess.

I have made a version with slightly fainter lines, for those who absolutely don’t want the lines to show after cutting.

This time, it is my one-stop-shop (but free) for Valentines day!

This year, there is a beautiful heart in a box, awesome wrapping paper, and a heart card to match! That’s everything you need, all in one place!!!

After seeing this photo on momastore.org I really wanted to make one..

Anyway, I found some free templates online and made them different colours, I don’t know who the original creator of the cubes is, but I have changed them quite a bit.

I have made the PDF files editable if you have Illustrator, you could change the colours and text!

All you need to do is print out the 4 PDF files, onto white card.. you could even use stiff paper, then using a cutting knife or scissors, cut them out, and glue them together, using the tabs.

I finally printed out Canon’s 2013 craft calendar!!

A few people asked where the ‘new one’ is, well Canon usually just replace the previous year’s one with the current year

I was able to use a really good Pixma printer with cheap white card. You only need to print out 4 of the 5 pages on the PDF.

I would suggest using both scissors and cutting knife with a ruler. It actually took me ages to do, I cut 2 out and came back to it later, as it is a bit fidly and small. But totally worth it!

It’s boiling hot summer here in Aus, so my fan kept blowing them away… So I cut some white card to 9.5 x 5.9 inches, and using double sided tape, stuck them on (see photo below). Now it is way better ^_^

Learn how to make really cute origami cherry blossom flowers!

The model is folded from one sheet of paper, starting from a pentagon. Traditional Japanese sakura flowers are easy to make, and look lovely!

I am unsure of the original creator, they have been featured in many books.

I used 6 x6 inch paper in the video tutorial, I would suggest using 3 x 3 inch paper when you get the hang of it, they are so cute when they are small!

Please excuse my nervous voice… there is something about talking to no one that makes me nervous… first speaking video, so hopefully I will improve!

I finally got to use the beautiful paper that Asking For Trouble had sent me!

The paper is adorable, so cute and really unique.

This (3 sided) triangular origami box is made using one piece of paper for the lid, and one piece for the base.

I used 6×6 inch paper for the box and lid, the inserts are 3×3 inches.

I’m so sorry about the lighting and sound, I am still too scared to speak in my videos, maybe one day, and when I don’t have a cold….

This origami pikachu model is pretty advanced, so if you don’t really get what a squash fold is, try a simpler model.

I have made this video as more of a request, it ended up taking a reeally long time to make.. so I hope someone benifits from it

This model is by Kazukuni Endo (遠藤和邦)

It is an advanced model but really easy after a couple of go’s.
I started with big square paper that is 12 x 12 inches. Even bigger is better if you find the handle to hard to fold, it is because the paper is too thick.

This model is great because you can have it square or traditional basket shaped! And it is perfect for putting Easter eggs in, it doesn’t have to be an Easter basket, could be for putting pens in, or a gift bag/box

This  origami shamrock model is by Marcela Brina, its pretty straight forward, the diagram is a bit un clear in parts but I managed to follow after a few minutes.

They also sent me a cute Japanese style doll fineliner pen, 2 pink Sticker glitter craft pens, a red art mechanical pencil, and a pink gel neon highlighter to try out.
My favourite is the neon highlighter, it goes on quite rough, and then you can use your fingers to soften it out, it looks pretty bright!
The Glitter pens are nice but I am not too skilled using them as you can see if you got to the to the end of the video..! The fineliner is of very good quality, I will use this a lot! I like the red mechanical pencil too, very useful!

Please make sure the annotations are turned on!

This hexagonal gift box is perfect as a gift box.

You will need:

• 2 x A4 paper
• paper clip
• bull-dog clip or small paper clip
• Ruler and knife or scissors.

I tried my best to show you how to squash down the inside of the box and then the outside of the lid, but as you can (or can’t) see, its a bit of a fiddle!
Just keep trying, make sure the folds are pretty precise and eventually you can just push it down and it will fall into place.

I wouldn’t say it is advanced, I find the modular boxes a lot harder, more complicated and honestly, kind of ugly.

This is a super cool model by Teruyo Koyano, I couldn’t find a video about it anywhere, so maybe mine is the first!!! woo..

Please excuse the weird taste in music, and the lighting changes, I had to film it over a few hours, and the sun was going down!

I would say that this is an advanced model, so it was tricky for me to make it the first time, and making it whilst trying to keep the folding at the camera was hard, so sorry if my hand got in the way a lot.

I think anyone can do it, it would make a lovely gift for Valentines Day..!

I saw some of these like this somewhere else on the internet and I really wanted to make some myself, and try out some other stuff, maybe some suns, moons and stars!

You can do things like balloons and kites and stuff too

Step 1: You need: Scissors, scalpel/cutting knife, cutting board, ruler, hole making spiky thing, really stiff thick card (for the stencil) a bunch of thinner white card (mine is A4 160GSM), needle and white or transparent thread… or wool..

Step 2: You will need to draw a cloud shape on the thick card and cut it out with the cutting knife.

Step 3: Fold 2 white A4 cards in half

Step 4: Draw around the stencil and cut the clouds out with the scissors.. (or the knife, depends on your card) I would use Very thick card for this…

Step 5: Use 3 of the 4 clouds and use a clip to keep them aligned.

Step 6: Use a ruler and the sharp pointy thing to make a straight vertical line of holes down the center (I didn’t go all the way..)

Step 7: Sew the holes!

Step 8: Now you can unfold the cloud.. and attach some more thread to hang it with.!!

Another tree! Once I learn one model, I need to know all the other ways of making it!  This modular origami Christmas tree is popular, being easier to make, bit more slick and large ones are being sold on etsy for like $70!

Anyway, mine is pretty small, I totally trashed a music book I had! You need to use double sided paper (paper with colour or pattern on both sides) because you would see the white from underneath.

I just cut a square and each time cut it a bit smaller, you could go on forever..

I made a lucky star and stuck it with double sided sticky tape. Click here to view my post on how to make the star.

After I finished the modular star in my previous post, I found this modular origami christmas tree by the same person on youtube!

I think they look really cute, they look complicated but actually they are quite easy, as long as you use quite large paper.

I took them apart, and combined them into a big one! Next I will make a tiny star to go on the top ^_^

Hi Guys, sorry I have been so busy, there has been no new posts in a few weeks.

I’m really getting into the whole Xmas thing, even have a tree set up, its very strange having Christmas in Oz, its hot, theres no snow… people are walking round in shorts.

Anyway, so I’ve been making these 5 pointed origami stars like crazy… I think they’re really neat, the only origami star which has 5 points, and is made from 1 piece of paper.

I think they are really cute…

I’ve been trying out a new origami paper pad with these, its called “Origami Craft Pad, Creatures & Critters”

It has some cute models in it too. Only downside, the paper isn’t quite square…! It would have been better if the paper came in a pack, not a tear off pad.

It has the cutest paper.

Anyway, I found that this diagram of how to first make a pentagon from a square, is the easiest to understand.

You can edit the header in wordpress by going to Appearance, then editor, then select the header file on the right.

I gave it an id of “social” so that I could position the links where I wanted from style.css So you add this in style.css:

#social { float: left; margin-left: 905px; margin-right: auto; margin-top: 240px; position: absolute; }

You will have to mess around with the “margin-left: 905px; margin-right: auto; margin-top: 240px;” until they are in the right place.

And I also gave it a class of “social” for good measure, so add this in under the one above:

.social { float: left; margin-bottom: 0px; border: 0px; }

If you are getting broken images, check that the image url’s in the script in the header are correct.

So as long as you upload the unzipped folder to the root directory of your website and only change the “www.paperkawaii.com” in the header script to your one, it should be fine.

Let me know how it goes, and if it makes no sense I’ll try again…!

Ok, I love Tamagotchi’s! My daughter loves them too, and she’s been watching the new movie non stop for 3 weeks… There aren’t many tamagotchi crafts out there on the web…

I think their really cute, I couldn’t find any origami tamagotchi characters out there, so I thought I’d make my own…

I have only done the Mametchi tutorial so far. I thought I’d see if anyone wanted one for the others before I bother…

How cute are these???

I don’t know who did all those tiny ones, but when I saw this, I wanted to figure out how they did it, its just the water bomb base, with one side unfolded.

The origami water bomb base is a traditional fold. It’s very simple.

the only difference is, only do the last set of folds on one side, folding the ears over when you blow it up.

I used 6×6 yellow paper, but it would be cuter if they were smaller.

I actually find the water bomb fold quite tricky if you don’t fold it right!!!  I have a couple of squashed pikachu’s here.

Pikachu Origami is really popular at the moment!

The Traditional Origami Crane.

It has been folded for hundreds of years, it was considered a symbol of peace after the second world war, and there is a legend that if you can fold 1000, you will be granted a wish.

These are some easter origami models I just tried.

The chicks in an egg is by Taiko Niwa, and the Rabbit is by Mari Ono

I used 6×6 double sided paper for the chicks and 6×6 solid colour paper for the bunny.

Eyes could look nice, and the bunny ears can fold down, these models I would say are simple and easy to make, the diagrams are a little hard to read but it doesn’t take long to figure out, let me know if would like a tutorial or if anyone knows where there is a diagram or video please leave a comment

I’ve been really slack with Easter this year, I hope to spend more time making ducks and chicks and things, but I at least wanted to make a nice origami basket.

This one is by Kazukuni Endo (遠藤和邦) I made it using 6×6 paper. Would have been easier with 8×8 solid colour paper.

This is my first attempt at the model, it is kind of hard, but I worked it out pretty good. Maybe medium difficulty.  Its really good as you get 2 pockets on the inside that flowers could be tucked into… or bunnies… eggs etc..

I will update this if I do this basket again, bigger.

Here it is, I used green card 25×25, it was too thick, I think paper would be better, the basket is big enough to hold only 1 Cadbury cream egg! big enough for many tiny eggs.

I left out the last part of the handle folding because the card was too thick. And I also stapled the handle rather than all that folding at the end.

As you can see it has really cute pockets ^_^

This Angry Birds papercraft is sooo cute! I love angry birds, I haven’t played it recently, but I had all the eggs and 3 stars in every level…! Sad but true.

Ok, so I went a bit nuts making these books.. there are actually more, that I gave away!

These aren’t true origami books, modular origami for the pages, but the covers are cut and optional glue.

I saw some books on Tweety Atelier which is in Korean. I can’t seem to link to a post directly, sorry, its in origami, on the 3rd page maybe.

The yellow one on the top of the pile is the one from that tutorial, the rest are modifications with different sized paper, and slightly different method with the cover.

I might do a tutorial on this, but I don’t think I’m that great at tutorials, the one I made on the baby shoes, seems no one like it HAHA

I would love to make a book case for them,..

Also I am so sad about whats been happening in Japan. I have a couple friends there..

So I made this origami gift box for a friend. It is from the book by Tomoko Fuse… its in Japanese, I don’t know where I got it..

It is not a modular box, the box is made from one piece of paper, and so is the lid.  I don’t like modular boxes, they always end up messy.

Here is a new kawasaki rose, I gave the first one away, so I thought I’d make another.

I used annoying stiff red ribbed papery card stuff. Terrible to fold with, but good quality.

It is basically 3 Kawasaki roses within each other, you can see a tutorial and diagram on my previous post:

You can give them as gifts (great for baby shower party or congratulations on new baby gift), Small children love these, and make great dolls shoes.

My Dad actually taught me this one, but I don’t know who made it originally, if anyone knows can you tell me?

Okay, heres my first attempts at Origami Kawasaki Roses, I saw some on bloomize.com and got inspired.

Previously I have not tried them, the diagram looks really scary… it looks soooo complicated, but I just thought oh well just try..!

Origami Hearts!!! Did I just have an original idea? Maybe maybe not..! This is a Pocket heart from the book: Francis Ow’s Book ‘Origami Hearts’. And I did a bow from:

I really want to try this one! It could be really cute, I have only been able to one website with this one on.

Ok so I tried it, I failed once… I may re-do this diagram, maybe make a video… because it is just so un-clear. theres a little black mark near the end which I am assuming means ‘cut’ because I couldn’t figure out how to do it without cutting it :-/ So I guess its not TRUE origami hahaha.

I think its nice, you can see I’m not the best at making things PERFECT, edge wise. and I’m not sure how different it would look if you just made 1 big heart and a small one and glued them together?! ahaha probably the same or better.

Ok, so this is meant to be a photo-frame in a heart… I’m a little embarrassed to add this because its a bit tacky…!

I used the diagram from Francis Ow’s Book ‘Origami Hearts’ (you can do a google search and add the word pdf at the end, and there is a media fire link right at the top (shhh))

And I just edited it a little, the diagram in the book is for a zero heart… which made no sense to me.

Instuctions.

(haha, translated of course)

What you need:
Scissors, cutter, bond (glue?) (can be made using the bond good for hobby craft.), and a ruler. Starch for the details (no idea) , it is useful to use some toothpicks.
Cardboard ※ (drawing paper and drawing paper) or print, please attach those printedon card stock.

So that the shape of a fish stick, as shown along a line.
Fold as shown, and put the margin on both sides of the triangle.
Is bonded as shown, attaching to the surface of the round margin.
As shown in the bottom of the stick, and a completion! (use the image above ^_^)

This is from Craftzine!!! We all know they have some pretty cool stuff!

Materials

Paper Heart Chain:
6-8 sheets of colored paper, not thick “construction” paper
Craft knife
Ruler
Cutting mat
Stapler

Directions

Step 1: Using a ruler, cutting mat, and craft knife, cut colored paper into strips measuring 1″ x 4 1/4″ each. You’ll need 2 for each heart link. (36 strips equals a chain about 54″ long)

Note: Experiment with different types of paper. Copier paper is too flimsy and construction paper may not make smooth bends.

Step 2: Stack 2 strips on top of each other and staple one set of ends together.

Step 3: Bend the stapled strips around to match the unstapled ends together, creating a heart shape. Layer 2 more strips, one on each side, aligning all 4 ends. Staple through all 4 layers.

Step 4: Repeat Step 3 and bend the last stapled strips around, layering 2 more strips, and stapling through all 4 layers.

Step 5: Keep going until your chain is as long as you’d like. It’s addictive!

This weaved heart tutorial is from splaneyo.blogspot.com

This is a really cool website, but unfortunately in Korean!

Here we go:

To make the Valentine holders, you will need two pieces of different colored paper.

I used two jumbo 12 x18″ sheets, but it also works with regular sheets – you will just get a smaller heart.

Fold each paper in half.

Cut the folded paper in half.

On the unfolded side, cut to round the tops – these will become the top of the heart.

On the folded side cut your strips for weaving. I used 4 strips and that seemed to be a manageable amount for 2 graders. Each strip was 1 1/2″ and I cut up the piece 6 1/2″. Whatever size paper you are using, when cutting the length of the strips be sure to leave a little bit of wiggle room because you will need it to weave in the final strip.

To begin weaving, hold each paper, folded side down, at a 90 degree angle.

Starting with the upper strip, begin weaving through the strips. Just remember “through”.

Once you are you are ready to weave your final strip, make sure that all of the other woven strips are pushed upwards because you are going to need the “wiggle room” you allowed for when cutting the strips.

Once the final strip is woven, push all of the woven strips down – it just looks better.

The final check – open the heart. If you did it right, your should have a pocket.

The last step is to add a handle. You can cut a strip of paper for the handle, or use some string. I found some cute heart brads, so we attached our handles with those.

Origami Rabbit Template – 金兔迎春

Difficulty Level ★★★!

Materials:

1. Coloured Papers
(preferably 80gsm)
2. Pen Knife
3. Ruler

Method:

Step 1
Download and print template over coloured papers. Fit to A4 size when printing.
Then cut along dotted lines. You should have 1 big , 1 medium  and 2 small square cutouts.

Step 2
Take any one of the square cutouts (use bigger piece for beginners).
Fold it into halves. The printed side should be facing out.
A 兔 character and a dot should be seen on each side of the folded paper.

Step 3
Unfold. The unprinted side of the paper should be facing you.
Fold the edges of the paper in towards the center crease.
You should see 2 兔 characters facing you.

Step 4
Fold all 4 corners to the center line.
Following that, mountain fold the edges to the center.

Step 5
Unfold. Squash fold all 4 corners.

Step 6
Fold the 2 resulting flaps over to the other side and turn over.
You should see the 2 printed dots forming the rabbit’s eyes.

Step 7
Turn over and fold the model in half to make a crease.

Step 8
Make 2 valley folds on the unprinted half of the model.
This will form the rabbit’s ears.

Step 9
Turn over. Mountain fold the head.

Step 10
Valley fold the model in half.
You’ll begin to notice the rabbit taking shape.
Gently pull the ears of the rabbit away from the body
and then crease on each side so that the head stands up straight.

Step 11
Make a pre-crease on the rabbit’s nose and then make a inside reverse fold.

Step 12
Pre-crease and make reverse fold at the back end of the rabbit.
This will form the legs of the rabbit.

Step 13
Pre-crease and make another reverse fold at the bottom back end of the rabbit.

Step 14
Pinch the head together at the bottom of the ears. Then shape ears.

Voila! Now, try making the rest of its family!

Here is how to make these simple chinese paper lanterns!!!

From kaboose.com

• Construction paper
• Scissors
• Tape
• Stapler
• Ruler
• Pencil
• Glue, glitter, sequins, if desired to decorate your lantern

How to make it:

1. Use your ruler to measure and cut one inch off the short end of your paper. Set aside to use as the handle.
2. Fold your paper in half lengthwise.
3. Draw a line one inch from the end of the long edge of the paper opposite the folded edge. This will be the line where you stop cutting.
4. Measure and mark lines one inch apart starting at the folded edge and moving towards the “stop cutting” line. (see photo)
5. Cut on the marked lines up to the “stop cutting” line.
6. Unfold the paper.
7. Re-crease the paper in the opposite direction. This will hide any pencil marks.
8. Match the long edges together on the lantern and use tape to hold it in place.
9. Staple the handle to the top of the lantern. (see photo)
10. Make as many lanterns as you wish and display them around your home.
11. If you wish, add glue, glitter, sequins or other things to decorate your lanterns.

How to make Chinese paper lanterns for the new year! Or.. cos they’re pretty!

Materials: Paper cup, red paint, plastic rod, red cotton thread

Tools: Brushes, scissors

Step 1: According to pictures, cut paper cups

Step 2: The paper cup was cutted finished

Step 3: Trim the upper edge of the paper cup

Step 4: Use another paper cup to make the lantern lid

Step 5: Use red cotton thread through the center of the lantern’s lid and bottom

Step 6: Stick lid and bottom with a red narrow strip of paper;

Step 7: Use red pigment to change the color of paper to red

Step 8: Use the cutted paper to make the tassel

Step 9: Assembled the parts of lantern

You could use a really cool cup, like we get from trendy coffee shops here in Oz… And you could use spray paint…!!!

This is my second Cherry Blossom Kusudama, the ‘petals’ where real easy, but putting it together took me ages, its probably because I was trying to follow japanese instructions, and missed out on any text writen!!!

I havent added a tassel yet, need to get some thread.

I might make another using thicker, red or dark pink colourd paper, but the size is good, just right. I used 150mm square paper and the model is the size of… I don’t know, I can’t put my hands around it, its pretty big.

I’m actually really proud of this one. Once you make 3 or 4 petals, you can just do it without the book.

I love the cherry blossom one the most, it is so much nicer than the other cherry blossom origami I have found.  The others look pretty too.

So I spent a bit more time trying out these origami snowflakes, the ones on the left and right are to Dennis Walker’s specifications, the one in the centre is based on that but taken further.

I think they will look nice hanging on the xmas tree, or in a window. made out of thinner paper, the 2 right ones are similar thickish sketch/print paper, the one on the left is see through plasticy paper.

Any thoughts? Anyone out there? Hello I’m trying to make nice snowflakes for Xmas!!!

Ok so thats my attempt, I went nuts trying to make a hexagon, I eventually had to watch the tutorial on the video that I posted below (a link at the beginning).

I can’t believe how stupid that diagram below is, if anyone can tell me it has it right, let me know.

It looks okay, I will try it with tracing paper later, maybe silver origami paper, its just making the hexagon makes the paper pretty small!.

They are the best origami snowflakes I have found so far.

How to build

I cut paper according to the paper pattern which I affixed and follow a source in an occasion.

I put double-stick tape on the right side of the paper like a photograph.

complete double-stick tape in the backside of the paper like a photograph. (two places)

I break a right base part to a line in an occasion.

5 I affix A to the part which completed double-stick tape of the backside.

I break the left base part to a line in an occasion.

I affix B to the part which completed double-stick tape of the backside.

I put the part which completed the double-stick tape of the face like a photograph.

It is like shape of a pipe.

Overlap flaps

Ribbon

I cut paper according to the paper pattern which I affixed and follow a source in an occasion.

I put double-stick tape on the right side of C like a photograph.

I affix D to a face of C.

Affix the ribbon part and break it to a line in an occasion.

In an occasion, I affix the backside of the ribbon part with double-stick tape to become square.

6 I attach ribbon to the box and am completed!

First Morning Dew Origami Kusudama Ball!

Okay!! I made one at last, it took me 2 nights, so like a few hours, you have to make 60 petals, but once to get going its really easy, so I started to experiment with different paper, I used some music score paper in there too. and a yellow ribbon for the tassel…

I’m Quite happy with it, it will be given as a gift, and I could probably make another one in less time now!

I followed these Diagrams if you’d like to give it a go!
