Make some Tanabata origami for the Japanese Star Festival, held on the 7th of July each year. On this day, people hang wishes on bamboo branches. These wishes are written on strips of paper called “tanzaku”.
To make wishes more like to come true, decorations are also hung on the branches. These decorations include paper streamers, paper cut into nets, origami stars and other origami models.
On this page you will find some origami models that are suitable to hang for this event. For example the origami lucky stars can be made and then strung onto some thread.
The origami doll in kimono as well as the simple star model are both flat, making them great for making a collage depicting the story behind Tanabata.
You can also find traditional origami decorations that are perfect for this festival over on the Origami Photo Tutorials page.
