These are the instructions to learn how to make a pretty origami octahedron with one sheet of paper.
These cute little origami gems would make awesome Christmas tree decorations, you could even use them as gift boxes, create a hanging advent calendar with them! I have a string of them hanging from my lamp stand, they look pretty with the light shining off them as they rotate in the breeze..
These origami instructions use half of a sheet of A4 or letter paper to create a 3D origami octahedron.
A regular octahedron is a Platonic solid composed of eight equilateral triangles, four of which meet in the middle.
I posted a photo tutorial of this origami model at about.com here.
Level: ◆ ◆ ◆ ◇ ◇
You will need:
Half of a sheet of A4 / Letter paper (any rectangular paper)
The actual dimensions used: 29.7 x 10.5 cm
Finished size: About 10 x 6 cm ish.
You could use square paper cut in half, but you’d probably need to cut off some of the sections to close the box.
