Origami Tic Tac Toe Game Instructions

Learn how to make an origami Tic Tac Toe, or Naughts & Crosses game. These origami tiles also fit onto the origami cube box.

These little origami tiles could be used on their own, (just skip the last few steps) or can twist onto the origami cube box [tutorial here].  The cube boxes fit into the Origami 9 Section Divider + Box, [tutorial here].

The paper I used for the boxes is ‘Kraft’ paper, which I get in packs of A4 180 GSM from Target, no longer being sold.

Naughts & Crosses Tiles

Cube Box:

You will need:

  • 1 sheet of square paper per tile
  • Bit of Glue (you could still do without but depends on your paper)

Paper Sizes:

If you are making the cubes to go with them, the dimensions I have used are:

Cube paper: 15 x 15 cm and Tile: 9.6 x 9.6 cm
Cube paper: 12 x 12 cm and Tile 7.6 x 7.6 cm

If using other size, here is what to do, take the size you are starting the cube with, for example, 20 cm.
Then divide 20 with 1.56, (20 ÷ 1.56 = 12.8).
So you’d use 12.8 x 12.8 cm for the tiles.

Or take the size you want to start the tile, and multiply by 1.56.

If you are making the whole lot (boxes, cubes, dividers etc..)

Final Box Size: 9.5 x 9.5 cm

divider: 15 x 15. Final size = 9 x 9 cm (÷/x 1.66)
box + lid: 20 x 20. Final size = 9.5 x 9.5 cm (÷/x 2.1)
cube: 12 x 12. Final size = 3 x 3 cm (÷/x 4)
tile: 7.6 x 7.6. Final size = 2.8 x 2.8 (÷/x 2.71)

(the text in orange is to help if you want to change the dimensions, needs tiny bit of maths)

Final Box Size: 11.7 x 11.7 cm

divider: 18.8 x 18.8. Final size = 11.3 x 11.3 cm
box + lid: 24.6 x 24.6. Final size = 11.7 x 11.7 cm
cube: 15 x 15. Final size = 3.75 x 3.75 cm
tile: 9.5 x 9.5. Final size = 3.5 x 3.5 cm

Paper used in the photos (the floral paper with gold on the back), comes with Traditional Japanese Origami Kit by Nick Robinson, buy here.
