Origami Envelope Box Instructions

Origami Envelope Box Instructions via @paper_kawaii

These are the instructions to learn how to make a nifty origami envelope or pouch that opens out to be a box, this easy origami only takes a few minutes.

This traditional origami box is more like a pouch or envelope when it’s squashed like this, it would look great with a ribbon wrapped around it.

It would also make a great party invitation envelope, with a square piece of paper on the inside which the invite could be written on. If origami envelopes are your thing, check out the origami envelope category.

This is another masu box variation, for a more advanced variation of the origami masu box, check out this bipramid gift box.

I’ve seen some of these with the flaps at the front folded behind once more, so instead of triangles they become five sided polygons. You could use thicker paper for these but they’d need to be flattened in a heavy book for a day or so in order to stay shut or a ribbon to tie them.

Level: ★★☆☆☆

You will need:

– 1 sheet of square paper (Used: 15 x 15 cm).

Final size: 5.25 x 5.25 cm.

A Photo Tutorial is available on the Origami Photo Tutorials page.

You can calculate what size your paper needs to be for a specific size, take the size you want and times it by 2.856 – the result is the paper size you’d need to start with.

Hi! I just wanted to tell you how I love your designs and tutorials and that you are a true inspiration to me! I only have one comment on this design – which I totally adore and use all the time, by the way. The final size of the envelope/box is not right. The final size of the box is 1/4 of the diagonal of the square paper you start with. I used the pythagorean theorem and I calculated that the final size of the box would be 0.35 times the length of the paper you start with. So if you use a 15 x 15 paper, you will get a 5.25 x 5.25 envelope/box, because 0.35 x 15 = 5.25 cm. I hope it helps anyone who wants a specific size outcome.
Best wishes!
